Applications of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) in Implant Treatment Planning
نویسندگان
چکیده
The objective of this article is to review the literature which describes the evolving role of cone-beam computed tomography in dental implant treatment planning. The literature supports the use of CBCT in dental implant treatment planning particularly in regards to linear measurements, three-dimensional evaluation of alveolar ridge topography, proximity to vital anatomical structures, and fabrication of surgical guides. Despite inherent limitations associated with conventional two-dimensional (2D) radiographs, these continue as the mainstay for assessments of anatomical landmarks and implant site evaluation, CBCT should be considered as an imaging alternative in cases where the projected implant receptor or bone augmentation site(s) are suspect, and conventional radiography may not be able to assess the true regional threedimensional anatomical presentation. This article has specific aim of describing critical anatomic landmark assessment based on four functional implant zones using CBCT.

Evaluation of prevalence and pattern of maxillary sinus mucosal thickening in cone beam computed tomography of dental implant candidates in Shiraz, Iran
BACKGROUND AND AIM: This study aimed to assess maxillary sinus floor membrane thickness and ostium patency (OP) in patients undergoing cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) evaluation for implant placement in the posterior maxilla. Mucosal thickening (MT) could be cause of post-operative complications in implant procedures; awareness of this incidence could help proper detection and further succ...
متن کاملArtifact reduction techniques in Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging modality
Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was introduced and became more common based on its low cost, fast image procedure rate and low radiation dose compared to CT. This imaging modality improved diagnostic and treatment-planning procedures by providing three-dimensional information with greatly reduced level of radiation dose compared to 2D dental imaging modalitie...
متن کاملThe Accuracy of Cone-beam Computerized Tomography Linear Measurements in Human Dry Mandible
Background & Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of Cone-beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT) linear measurements in dry mandibles by comparing them with direct measurements. Methods: Two human dry mandibles were used in this study. Thirteen sites were selected on each mandible. Specimens were scanned by CBCT and linear measurements were made using Planmeca Romexis 2.3.0.R s...
متن کاملKnowledge of Iranian dentists about cone beam computed tomography. A questionnaire study
Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), is a relatively new imaging technique in dental and maxillofacial fields, with versatile abilities and applications. If the advantage of CBCT is well understood and established; the technique will be properly applied in dental planning and treatment along with tremendous benefits to the patients. This study was designed to evaluate the knowled...
متن کاملCorrelation Between Tissue Densities in Computed Tomography and Three Different Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Units (In Vitro)
Background and Aim: Bone density is of great assistance in the selection of the proper implant site. The present study aimed to assess the correlation between tissue densities in computed tomography (CT) and three different cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) units. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, a radiographic phantom consisting of a transparent polymethyl methacrylate (PM...
